The way I see it- BET handled things very stupidly. As far as we know, no one foresaw MJ's death but we can assume that the awards show planning was already underway. So there were 2 options: 1) Maintain the current theme of the show but include a short segment honoring MJ with the intention of planning something more "exuberant" to celebrate his life AFTERWARDS or 2) Revamp the entire show and dedicate it to MJ's memory. Option 1 seems more viable given the time constraints...but to claim that the awards show would be used to honor MJ and then maintain the sub-par content is just stupid. STUPID.

I agree that the BET awards were a mess. The first hour looked unprofessional and I kept thinking why we can’t do better. The blatant commercialism was disgraceful with sponsors’ banners displaying on the stage to the shameless plugging for new projects, concerts, shows etc. And what does Toya? & Tina have to offer that they have a show? Thank God Chris Brown did NOT show up
to do a tribute to MJ. That would have been too much.
I know Jamie tried and there were pockets of talent and great showmanship in the show, but we have to step up our game.
Sometimes we have to step back and re-think what we do. Maybe BET should do a separate tribute to MJ because we do own him a debt and maybe the BET awards should just have been dedicated to him with folks doing what they had planned. Not everyone can turn on a dime.
Anyway, to stop the hating, the intentions were good but the execution...... MJ was a perfectionist..Let's strive for excellence.
