Think of the nature of the profession. Police are individuals that are entrusted to enforce and execute the law. Each individual decides how far they can carry that trust. Power is somewhat like a drug and they forget that too much of anything is bad.

Is behavior like this in any way surprising? It's only as surprising as the fact that some men beat their women; however, not every man beats his woman.

It doesn't excuse it - but I don't think we should shed a negative light on police in general. It's a unique profession that requires a lot of a human. Some fall short. That's life.

Wow. I'm gonna have to peep this when I get back on my computer. It just makes me sick to know that in the world we live in nobody is ever safe, that we all have a chance of becoming somebody's victim.

dumi is right. We have to get in the fight and remain in it until we make change.

Folks are still organizing and struggling to get real justice following the murder of Oscar Grant out here in the Bay Area. We have to stay in the fight in order to let "the law" know that they can never be above the law.

short answer, we will. Malcolm X Grassroots has been and continues to do a lot of work on this issue. We're always looking for folks who are down to fight for our rights and humanity.
