We were at 125th and Adam Clayton Powell celebrating with the masses--amazing! On the way there, Florida and California were called for Obama. It was silent, and then all of a sudden, there were crowds in the street, cars honking, cheering, high-fiving. Such a historical moment!

I have yet been able to orchestrate the words to express how I feel, but I have kept a photo diary from casting my vote to the announcement. Although I watched among a group of strangers in Manhattan when the announcement flashed across the screen we were definitely a family. A few of us also walked through Union Square later in the night, and it looked like New Years Eve: a mass of elated people, hugging strangers, screaming, crying, honking. It was beautiful but surreal. I want to remember every detail associated with this monumental moment in history to share it with my children and grandchildren.

Beautiful. I felt like wrapping my baby up, jumping in my ride and heading into Oakland or hoping on the bus and joining the celebrations at Cal, but I just stayed home and cried... rejoyced =)

aw. i was sick yesterday so i watched it from my couch. when they announced Obama was President we started to hear shouts from the streets so we went outside. across the street there was this older lady with an accent and she was screaming. i think it might have been a prayer. then a younger woman yelled out from her window "we've finally done something right!" then others came outside with blow horns and fire crackers. it was amazing.

Yes we did. Me skin is extremely flavorful from all the tears I shed. It was overwhelmingly empowering.

I celebrated by holding my sleeping 5 year old in my arms, who accompanied me to the polls this morning, and lived in a moment of pride. A moment of truly believing that we are now going to be alright.
