I’ve been trying to bite my tongue for the past few days because quiet frankly, I think Palin is making a mockery of the republican party and this entire election. And the double standards are absolutely killing me, like, for real. Many other blogs have been doing amazing jobs of reporting the good, the bad and the ugly of the past week and a half, so please check out: Jack and Jill Politics, the Huffington Post and PostBougie.
I’m actually REALLY interested to hear your opinions on what’s going. What did you think of the DNC? Are you watching the RNC? Can you take it seriously at this point? What are your thoughts on Palin?
Spill it,

I don’t think I want to waste my energy watching the RNC because it’s only going to make me angry and frustrated.
In regards to McCain’s choice in Palin, I think is was impulsive, desperate and a little insulting to women from both parties. I don’t know if she is a wise pick because if (let’s hope not) McCain gets elected and dies before his four years are up, Palin will have to use her experience in ALASKA with whatever she learns in the White House to RUN THE COUNTRY and deal with international rulers and issues. All his talk about Obama’s lack of experience is out the window for me because Palin has been governor of Alaska and born and raised in a town with less than 7,000 people.
I don’t know… it just doesn’t sit right with me.
thanks for your comment rox
it prob was a good idea to not watch. day 3 of the dnc is difficult because i just don’t know where they are getting this from. somehow we are winning the war. apparently barack was only a community activist. it was full of smears and low blows.
and then palin took the stage. man. i hate to say it, i really do, but she came off as a … i shouldn’t say. at any rate, she was mean, she was catty, she was smug. i just don’t like her.
I was moved by the DNC, but am not watching the RNC for the same reasons that Rox said. I am trying hard to be able to view all points objectively, but screw that. I just don’t understand conservative views AT ALL. I am so over tradition I don’t know what to fricken do… if this country had always stuck to tradition then us black folks would still be picking cotton, lol.
Don’t really have many thoughts on Palin. Its like she just came out of nowhere, as some kind of “stand-in Hilary”. If nothing else this entire thing just gets more interesting day by day.
Oh, SO many thoughts on Palin…First of all, in the spirit of full disclosure, I am an Obama supporter. With that said, I believe this is a groundbreaking race–we have a candidate of color on one side and a female VP candidate on the other. However, I disagree with Palin on pretty much every policy issue under the sun, so her being chosen is not enough to sway my vote to the right. What strikes me most about her is the difference between her tone and the tone of the Obama/Biden ticket. Obama and Biden talk about hope, optimism, and a better America, while Palin was sarcastic and biting. Is that desperation? I don’t know.
Secondly, McCain’s choosing Pailin as a running mate takes the argument that Obama is not experienced enough to be president off the table. If elected, McCain will probably only serve 1 term. Then who’s next? Furthermore, if something happens to McCain before 4 years are up, Palin is on deck. She has been in office for a month longer than Obama has been campaigning. This seems to me to be an irresponsible choice, where there are so many other experienced women to choose from.
I am definitely a feminist, and pleased to see a woman up there on stage. But policy issues and the effects the President’s choices will have on the country and the world need to be factored in. I know who my choice is.
I watched the RNC and I’m glad I did… it was unsettling and hurtful, but I needed to see it for myself, uncut (I watched the full version, not the pundit clips).
I needed to hear Romney and Guiliani’s hateful speeches… and I needed to hear more from/about Palin… you better believe Obama’s camp was watching the RNC and taking notes, the same way McCain’s camp was watching the DNC and taking notes (which ultimately influenced McCain’s vp choice).
I mentioned this to Eva, but I’d love to see an online SASSY debate about the virtues of a Obama vs. McCain presidency… ie an Obama supporter and a McCain supporter writing a column on their stance… and using substance and policy (and personal values, because those influence the voting process) to make their claim.
