So MTV had a roundtable and came up with the 10 Hottest MCs in the game. I am pleased they announced that Kanye West was number 1. But really, how could they deny him?

Simply put…MTV did not get it right, because I refuse to believe that there aren’t any ‘femmcees’ worthy for this list. However…I am hardpressed to suggest one, so I’m gonna stew on this for a moment.
Also…I think Luda should be up there before Jeezy, due to his wordplay. Not to be a total English nerd, but half of the reason why I love Ludacris is due to his use of similies and alliteration…I’m just saying.
hmm i hadn’t even thought of femmce’s but look at the year. foxy just got out, i don’t what lil kim is doing other than making her face look more crazy, remy ma’s in jail too. uhm. i know there are more but it hasn’t been the best year for these women.
i’m just glad lupe made the list. i could do without 50.
Sorry Anairo, you’re off on this one too. There’s maybe one femcee who’s made any noise as far as music is concerned these days and her name’s Jean Grey. No album, no love. Lil’ Kim’s busy doing … something and Foxy still needs to regain her fans. I wish we had more femcees out there, but you can’t refuse anything when there’s no ladies reppin’. Even MC Lyte’s more relevant than the Foxy / Kim ladies. Too bad.
They got this list absolutely right. Kanye as an emcee has produced some of the best rhymes out, and his growth as an emcee is evident from just the features. I think what did it for him was the tour, and how his live show is probably tops right now in creativity and energy. He’s not a Busta, but all that experience with big names on tour has helped him come up with a really awesome show.
50 Cent is not hot, but for some reason, he’s still got a pole position in the rap game. Also, while I like Andre3000, he’s only had a couple of features, thus he needs to fall out of the running. Also, Rick Ross? I don’t understand the Rick Ross thing.
Then again, I’m still having problems with MTV dictating who’s hot in the rap game. Whoops, did I say that?
Alright then, Eva & Jose, I see you. But….
50 may not be hot to you (or me, for that matter) but he’s got movies, a deal with Coca-Cola, and that skanktastic clothing/sneaker line. A hot mc these do not make, but the man (or his handlers) is a marketing genuis, and if we’re to go by the standards that you set (by mentioning Kanye’s success with the tour) then 50 deserves to be in the 10. Plus, admit it; you know you get *slighty* geeked when you here “Go, go, go, go, go shawty…its ya birfday…”
Rick Ross is on the list, cause he’s the Boss, duh. (haha…but really…no.)
And as for MTV “dictating who’s hot in the rap game”…well, who else has thier mainstream appeal? Not BET, and with subscription publications at an all-time low, certainly not VIBE/the Source.
I don’t think that this is a “best” list, and Kanye is definitely NOT the best MC right now. He has hot moments, but Lupe’s flow is better, and Jay Z kills him. The list is mis-ordered an incomplete. And solja boy… are you kidding me. How can you say his name and MC in the same sentence and keep a straight face.
MTV recognizes catchy beats of great beat makers and marketable entertainers, but a true MC is a lyricist, and the list is just not right when it comes to the essence of the thing.
the thing is that we’re talking about MCing – not hustling or being a business man. personally i didn’t really care for american gangster that much and i didn’t even listen to anything off 50s latest (mainly b/c it’s the same as his last albums) and soulja boy is just plain crazy. yes i’m impressed that he came up on his own, sure i’ll do the dance, but superman that hoe is not touching ANYTHING on kanye’s or lupe’s albums. i’m sorry.
sigh. half of the emcees on this list upset me.

And let’s all note something… the list says “Hottest MC’s,” not “Best MC’s” or “MC’s with the tightest flows.” It means just what it says…who’s hot right now. That is Kanye. His tour is selling out like hotcakes with good opening acts, an interesting concept, and promoting a multiplatinum ‘hot’ album. He wins, hands down.
That said, Soulja Boy has NO business on here. He had one really hot song, 6 months ago, and some tepid song like 3 months ago. He’s over. The end.

I agree with Bari. The list does say “Hottest”, but that right there is the problem. I still can’t understand why its so hard for us to be into what’s “right” instead of what’s considered “cool” or “hot”. Lupe’s whole album talks about this and its so true. We would rather have a catchy hook and a booty shakin’ beat over real music, because these says real music isn’t considered “hot”.
I also still can’t believe that Soulja Boy was EVER allowed to make an entire album!! That boy needs his ass in a classroom somewhere where he can get educated on why the production of a line of Soulja Boy glasses is NOT a good idea!!
