Ok SASSY ladies (and gentlemen), Modern Musings has organized a day of awareness for the Darfur and the blogosphere has responded to the call. (Yes, I’m aware the day is almost over).
I’m sure by now you are aware of the genocide occurring in Darfur. Perhaps you know the details. If you’re a little fuzzy, let me refresh your memory. What we are witnessing is a ethnic war between Sudanese military and Janjaweed (both Arab) against the rebels, Sudanese Liberation Movement and the Justice and Equity movement (both are mainly composed of Fur, Zaghawa and Massaleit tribes and are non-Arab). Five years ago, the rebels mounted an insurgency on the government. The government retaliated by supporting the Janjaweed, who are accused of committing many human rights violations.
Personally, it’s disgusting that for five years we have watched men, women and children die. Thousands are dead (estimates range from 9,000 to 400,000), and even more have been displaced. Five years of murder, torture and rape. I can appreciate the US calling this a genocide and donating money to the cause, but the violence continues. With limited access, it’s difficult to know the extend of the damage and death Darfur is suffering. Peace keeping efforts have been unsuccessful. Darfur fades in and out of the headlines, therefore, Darfur fades in and out of our consciousness. Today is a day to remember.
No more genocide.

Thank you for adding your might voice to the roar.
Genocide no more!
You have harnessed your power potential by furthering education on the genocidal depopulation scheme in Darfur. The precedence must be set in stone, senseless murder is not tolerable at any scale.
There are many actions that need to be taken. Signatures are needed so that they can be recorded.
There are several petitions sponsored by Dream for Darfur that can be found at this post.
